Kalispell, Montana is a city located in Flathead County and is the largest city in the Kalispell Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city of Kalispell was established in 1891 by Charles Edward Conrad and was officially incorporated as a city in 1892. Conrad, a businessman, and banker from Fort Benton, Montana, along with three other men, formed the Kalispell Townsite Company and quickly began selling lots. The city has continued to grow and expand, reaching a population of 19,927 in 2010. Today, Kalispell is the county seat and commercial center of Flathead County and is considered a secondary trade center with a trade area of approximately 130,000.

Nestled in the heart of the Flathead Valley, Kalispell is located just 31 miles from Glacier National Park and 22 miles from Hungry Horse Dam. The city is also just 7 miles from Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. Skiers and snowboarders have access to Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain and Blacktail Mountain Ski Area, each 17 miles away. Golfers in the region can enjoy the Buffalo Hill Golf Club, designed by Robert Muir Graves.

Kalispell has a public library and two high schools, Flathead High School and Glacier High School, as well as Flathead Valley Community College. The city is at the intersection of U.S. Routes 2 and 93 and is serviced by Glacier Park International Airport, which is approximately 8 miles northeast of Kalispell. Kalispell City Airport offers general aviation services, while Amtrak's Empire Builder service is available in Whitefish, approximately 15 miles north of the city. Eagle Transit, an agency of Flathead County, offers local transit services within Kalispell and connecting the city to Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

As of July 2014, one of Montana's last mint farms, growing peppermint, and spearmint, is located near Kalispell.
